Oral sedation
Oral sedation uses a prescribed medication taken before your appointment to help you feel calm and deeply relaxed. You may feel sleepy, but you can still respond when spoken to. Before treatment begins, Dr. Shaun Burlingame or Dr. Francisco Suarez will walk you through what to expect.

How It Works
Oral sedation
Patients with higher anxiety may benefit from an oral medication that is stronger than nitrous oxide. Oral sedation uses a prescribed medication taken before treatment to help you feel calm and deeply relaxed. You may feel drowsy, but you can still respond when spoken to. Before your visit, our team will give you clear instructions about what to expect before, during and after treatment. Because oral sedation can affect alertness and coordination, you will need someone to drive you home after your appointment.
Plan for a ride: after oral sedation you will need a responsible adult to drive you home. Your pre-visit instructions will cover eating, drinking, and your medications; if anything is unclear, call us at 530-223-1811.
